Getting stuff done is key to job hunting and working alike, so how can you avoid the painful procrastination loop and ensure you're successful everyday?

People often talk of "motivation techniques" as key to getting stuff done, but mustering up motivation can be hard sometimes, especially if you're not especially keen on the task at hand.

The key element of getting stuff done is discipline. It sounds simple, but kicking off your day by creating your own flavour of well-deserved satisfaction is the holy grail of productivity.

You know that feeling you get when you finish a task and mentally pat yourself on the back? It's rewarding, it's relieving, it's satisfying and it's also motivating because you've done something you needed to do. That feeling is key to because it can spur you on to do more.

The trick to supercharging your productivity is to start your day with a blast of satisfaction. It requires a bit of discipline but it pays off by the bucket-load and can influence your entire day. Instead of getting caught in a negative spiral of procrastination you can leapfrog from one focused task to the next and still have time to chill-out in-between.

Supercharge your productivity - procrastination versus discipline

Try it: Put something super-easy, but still a useful task, at the top of your "To do" list for the day and crack on with it as soon as you sit down to work. Don't check your email, don't do anything else, just buckle down and get that first task crossed off your list.

The buzz you get from having started so productively will give you that warm, glowing feeling which will in turn effect your state-of-mind. Getting closure, on even the simplest task, at the start of the day provides the perfect pick-me-up which will drive you on to complete the next task and you'll have a super-productive day.
