Social media content creator - freelance support needed Help play a part in a major launch to influence the future direction of charities, community groups, campaigning, the internet and more. We are looking for a freelancer for up to 10 days, the weeks of 29 October and 5 November, to create some social media content (and possibly also a little bit of web) for a major launch in late November:

    • Creating shareable images (using our Canva account or your own software e.g. Photoshop)
    • Creating short teaser/explainer videos a bit like this - or better! (using a tool like Animoto or your own)
    • Writing tweets and posts
    • Possibly also turning our report into a long scrolling web story using a tool like Shorthand

Please read on for more details and how to apply. Who we are Civil Society Futures is the independent inquiry into the future of civil society in England.   ‘Civil society’ is everything we do with each other or for each other that's not the state and not for profit - from faith groups to Facebook groups, social enterprise to social media, organised charities to informal community action to caring for a relative.   How can we have a thriving society in the next ten years?  What are the challenges? What are the possibilities? We are here to fire up people’s imaginations, get them thinking about the future and taking action to change where needed. We’ve heard that people and communities across England want to be more connected to each other - and have more power over their lives.  Hear about it here: Animation  Short report Our final launch in November In late November we are launching our final findings and recommendations, which we hope will help shape the future direction of civil society for the next decade and beyond. We are planning a media launch and social media will also play a really important part - grabbing attention, spreading what we’ve heard, engaging people and helping them begin to think about what it means for them. We have some reach through our own social channels - mainly Twitter - and would use the content you create.   And we can reach many more people through our inquiry panel and partner organisations and a number of other friendly organisations.  When we launched our interim findings in April we created a briefing pack that a number of organisations used - we would like to create a better version of this for November that the content you create would become part of. We need you We are a small team with two people working part-time on communications.  We can manage the overall strategy and plan for what we do with this November launch, and we can run our social media channels day-to-day, but we do not have the capacity to create as much content as we would like.  We are looking for someone to help us with:

    • Creating shareable images (using our Canva account or your own software e.g. Photoshop)
    • Creating short teaser/explainer videos a bit like this - or better! (using an easy tool like Animoto or your own software)
    • Writing tweets and posts
    • Possibly also turning our report into a long scrolling web story using a tool like Shorthand

We are looking for a freelancer who is:

    • Experienced and has ideas about how to create good social media content
    • Versatile and able to create different kinds of content outlined above
    • Easy to work with
    • Gets a lot done
    • Has a good eye for design (working with our existing brand)
    • Is good with words too (we’ll provide a lot of the raw content from our reports and elsewhere - but you’ll need to translate these into shorter-form content)

You do not need to be a fully-fledged video editor or a Photoshop wizard, we’re very happy to have someone who can work with easy existing tools - especially if that means you can produce more within the time. We will work up a fuller brief nearer the time, but would expect to have an initial meeting to work out exactly where you would focus your efforts and what’s possible within the time - and we are open to any ideas you have about the best ways to bring content to life. We are looking for up to 10 days of your time, the weeks of 29 October and 5 November. Interested? If you’re interested and feel like you’re a good fit, please email joe.hall@opendemocracy.net by 9am on Friday 19 October with…

    • 1-2 paragraphs on why you’re interested in this project
    • 2-3 paragraphs about your experience
    • Links to the 3 best pieces of social media content you’ve created (ideally spanning some of the list above of the kinds of content we want you to create), making it clear what your role was in creating these
    • Your contact details

Joe will get back to you by Monday 22nd. Thanks for reading.  This project spans something quite vast, and can be a lot to wrap your head around at times (we’ve found!), but it’s trying to do something really interesting and important.
