We believe as Pope Francis said in Laudato Si’, that “truly, much can be done!” Read here: 3 reasons to join GCCM About the position This position is a hands-on financial leader who helps ensure that organizational objectives are met by analyzing and maintaining the organization’s schedules and systems as developed by the Director of Finance. Global Catholic Climate Movement seeks an experienced accountant/controller with excellent analytical and organizational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to effectively communicate, both in writing and orally, with multiple stakeholder groups, including staff, independent contractors and partners. Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Prepares monthly and year-end financial statements in accordance with US GAAP and Local Italian regulations
  • Prepares and reviews monthly journal entries
  • Act as advisor/subject matter expert on complex accounting treatments on Italian GAAP and policy/procedures interpretation
  • Extensive Local Italian financial reporting and Tax experience
  • Prepares monthly payroll for Italian staff, payroll taxes and employee benefits payroll deductions; serves as back-up to payroll processor for remaining staff
  • Reviews payroll compliance with government regulations and policies
  • Reviews vendor invoices and employee expense reports prior to payment
  • Coordinates the annual compliance needs according to Italian laws and serves as a key point of contact for external stakeholders; including managing preparation and support of all external reviews
  • Coordinates budget process with Director of Finance
  • Serves as a backup for US based accounting staff
  • Performs other accounting related duties as assigned
  • Travel – Less than 10% per year
  • Actively participates in all company required meetings
  • Follows and administers all company policies and acts as a role model in the adherence to policies
  • Responsible for performing his/her job in the most cost effective and time efficient method to accomplish his/her job duties
  • Supervision Received – Works under minimal supervision reporting to the Director of Finance

Skills, knowledge & abilities

  • Hardworking and detail-oriented
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the principles of not-for-profit accounting
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive issues
  • Working knowledge of Excel & other Microsoft Office products & Google Docs software
  • Experience with international business
  • Ability to make recommendations to provide improvements and efficiencies
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to explain and educate staff at all levels
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Fluent in English both speaking and writing
  • Experience with QuickBooks online
