Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities Digital communications

  • Support website management using audience analysis to improve results. This includes:
    • Uploading materials to the website and publishing, checking and optimising site content
    • Monitoring and reporting on web analytics to help us reach target audiences and increase traffic
    • Organising and delivering regular and ad hoc website training to staff in the London office and remotely
    • Acting as first point of contact for web publishing support and issues, escalating to the Digital Manager as required
  • Support day to day management of Global Witness’ social media channels and delivery of social media strategy, including:
    • Identifying coverage and reactive opportunities for campaigns on social media
    • Drafting social media content and blogs and coordinating sign off
    • Acting as first point of contact for social media support and queries, escalating to the Digital Engagement Advisor as required
    • Monitoring and reporting on engagement with our content and conversations on our issues using social media analytics and listening tools

Media monitoring and outreach

  • Carry out media monitoring and evaluation – including daily news roundup, recording coverage and helping to compile regular monitoring and evaluation reports
  • Manage organisational media subscriptions, including overseeing supplier management, negotiating terms, tracking and allocating budget
  • Organise a range of training for campaigners to help them use media and communications effectively to influence targets and deliver campaign impact
  • Support Communications Advisors with pitching, and media and partner outreach as required

Communications team support

  • Provide administrative support and project management for key communications projects, helping to organise workshops and other events
  • Support the delivery of communications products and activities as required
  • Help to construct and maintain systems to support effective communications, for example contact database, asset management systems, internal communications etc
  • General admin support as needed for effective running of the communications team
  • Help recruit, train and supervise communications interns

Ways of working and collaborating

  • Works collaboratively with all colleagues across Global Witness to collectively deliver our ethos and mission, vision and aims
  • Supports fundraising and communications activities by ensuring strand and campaign information is provided when required and building relationships as appropriate

Person Specification Essential To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Excellent communications skills, especially written
  • Confidence, ambition, willingness to learn
  • Creativity, tenacity and a good ‘news sense’
  • A grasp of what copy and visuals work best for different social and digital channels
  • Highly organised, with attention to detail and able to prioritise
  • Good negotiating skills and a strong team player
  • Fluent in English
  • Commitment to Global Witness’ work and values
  • Proven experience of working in an administrative role, ideally in a communications setting
  • Initiative and self-motivation as well as the ability to anticipate needs
  • Excellent IT skills and awareness of new tools for communications
  • Resilience and calm when faced with challenging and demanding situations
  • Creative problem-solving skills and a focus on outcomes

Highly Desirable:

  • Understanding of print, broadcast and online media in UK and / or other countries;
  • Experience working on web content, social media management and/or online campaigning;
  • Knowledge of database management;
  • Experience using web and social media analytics and social listening tools
  • Good project management skills;
  • Basic web editing skills including CMS;
  • Experience of photo and video production and editing
  • Knowledge of Photoshop,
  • Fluent in Spanish, French, Chinese or another language in which Global Witness works
  • Knowledge of and / or interest in development, human rights, environment, natural resources;
  • Interest in ‘theories of change’ and how advocacy organisations make change happen.
