About the position The Director of Network Engagement defines and delivers the movement engagement strategies for GCCM at global, regional and national levels. Collaborating with and supporting others around the world, the incumbent will play a leading role in both GCCM’s highly successful grassroots mobilization programs and the engagement of GCCM’s network of 900+ member organizations. The staff member will manage, coach, and support front-line staff who engage with our robust grassroots base and the larger universe of Catholic institutions. In other words, the staff member will oversee GCCM’s vast and growing web of relationships, with the ultimate goal of empowering and activating the Catholic community to turn Laudato Si’ into action to tackle the climate crisis. Lastly, the staff member will also play an active role in the strategic direction of GCCM as a member of our program leadership team. Location Anywhere. Location is flexible based on the right candidate. Type Full-time position. Essential duties and responsibilities Movement Building Management

  • Oversee core grassroots organizing programs to engage GCCM’s membership, including Laudato Si’ Animators, Laudato Si’ Circles, and GCCM chapters.
  • Lead the engagement of Member Organizations in collaboration with GCCM’s Steering Committee and Working Groups, while coordinating with additional departments to provide resources to Member Organizations.
  • Manage the network engagement component of GCCM global campaigns, such as the upcoming Laudato Si Movie, to ensure large participation of our membership.
  • In collaboration with the communications team, oversee the creation of appropriate education, training, and organizing materials.

Management

  • To provide support and line management to regional teams around the globe. Ensure that goals are clear, holding regular check-ins/feedback and supporting in the definition and delivery of campaign and program strategies.
  • Support project leads as managers of their own staff teams, demonstrating management best practices, contributing ideas and resolving concerns, and ensuring that all teams are well managed.
  • Work within a matrix management framework to guide and be guided by GCCM team members in other departments as needed.
  • Contribute to organizational discussions about how to recruit, retain, support and nurture the talent of key staff across the world.

Strategic thinking and planning

  • Define and implement a solid movement building plan, including the development of support infrastructure, to engage our base to act towards GCCM’s strategic goals of ecological conversion, sustainability, and advocacy.
  • Provide strategic guidance to regional teams, ensuring their campaigning and movement-building efforts have the greatest possible impact in evolving Church and political environments
  • Institute ongoing goal-setting, tracking, and evaluation systems to ensure maximum organizational impact.

Other

  • Understand GCCM’s history, campaigns, and theory of change, and keep current with basic climate science and policy. From time to time, use this knowledge to represent GCCM’s perspective in public venues.
  • From time to time, contribute work towards GCCM’s overall mission that is outside standard responsibilities and instead relies solely on geographic location or work capacity. Support GCCM major initiatives such as the Laudato Si’ Movie, Carbon Neutrality Initiative and other projects that might arise on a case-by-case basis.

Requirements Candidates should also:

  • demonstrate 5 to 7 years’ experience in the areas of responsibility
  • demonstrate familiarity with ecological issues at both the level of impact and the level of policy
  • demonstrate a sustained history of working on advocacy campaigns
  • be comfortable working in a faith-based environment
