Network Lead (Maternity Cover) You will help us grow and develop the PIRC network, ensuring a movement-building approach is embedded within PIRC’s framing projects. The role will be 30 hours per week, for a period of 10-12 months. Salary is £26,000 pa (£20,800 pro rata) as part of our flat pay structure. What you’ll be doing

  • Coordinating outreach and relationship-building: Attending events (which may include travel); setting up meetings;
  • Developing relationships with activists, campaigners and communicators to ensure PIRC’s work is reaching a wide community;
  • Developing PIRC’s approach to movement-building: Design and implementation of networked and collaborative ways of working within projects, such as running action learning sets;
  • Developing an online community: Building PIRC’s presence online through social media and regular online communication, managing and developing other online community tools;
  • Contact management: Maintaining a database of contacts and keeping a log of interactions and correspondence;
  • Collaborating with Workshops and Research Leads: Working closely with other team members to support the facilitation of framing training programmes and research activities;
  • Contributing to organisational management: Getting significantly stuck into one of our Core Groups, see below!

It’d be an added bonus if you had:

  • An understanding of how frames and stories shape the world we live in;
  • Knowledge and experience of participatory tools and approaches;
  • Writing skills: clear, quick, and with experience of being published;
  • Experience of designing, carrying out and writing-up research;
  • Experience of managing budgets and fundraising;
  • Prior experience of working or volunteering in the third sector;
  • A fondness for board games / Frisbee / the outdoors / My Little Pony.

Organisational management Our flat structure means that we share the responsibilities involved in managing and developing an organisation. Part of this happens through rotating roles in Core Groups focused on Resources (finances, fundraising and office supplies), People (staff wellbeing, cohesion and training), Programming (capacity and planning) and Direction (strategy, ideas and development) so we would also expect any new team member to participate in one or more of these Groups. We don’t expect you to have any particular skills in any of these areas, but it would be a bonus if you did. Anti-oppression We recognise that society contains systems of oppression that lead to different outcomes depending on who you are. In light of this, we work to create awareness and action around these systems of oppression and to understand our own role in these systems. We do this to ensure we work in a more liberatory way so we can better support those who experience oppression both inside and outside our organisation. In line with our anti-oppression policy, we therefore expect all team members to:

  • Develop self-awareness about how we relate to each other and our different backgrounds and experiences;
  • Educate ourselves about oppressions outside of our own experience;
  • Work to modify our organisational structures and policies, and our own behaviour to reduce the oppressions faced by our team-mates and create accessible spaces for anyone working in or with our organisation;
  • Seek out ways to proactively support staff who face oppression in their daily lives;
  • Consider accessibility in all aspects of our work, for example how events, meetings or any work we organise might exclude people.
